Dear CSAers
Last week was not only the last Ridgefield Farmers’ Market but the end of our shared CSA harvest. It truly has been a wonderful season connecting with each and every one of you. The CSA Tuesday and Friday pick ups were certainly the high point of the summer. We thank you for sharing your stories, recipes and family happenings each week and for allowing us to be a part of your family meals. We hope that we were able to help you in your quest for healthier eating and that just maybe you ventured outside your culinary comfort zone and found something new and delicious. We so very much appreciated your supporting words and optimism; even in the wettest of weeks, during this growing season that certainly turned out to be one for the books.
As the CSA is ending, the next few weeks on the farm will be very busy preparing for the winter. The fields need to be prepped and put to bed; such an important job to insure that the soil will be enriched and ready for spring planting. There is equipment to put in order, irrigation lines to stow away, feed corn to harvest, crop plans to prepare and meetings to attend. The CTNOFA and Farm to Chef annual meetings prove an invaluable source of information and sharing among the farming community.
Outside of these regular duties we will also be undertaking some additional projects. Construction of greenhouses to extend both our spring and fall seasons and revisions/upgrades to the CSA program to include add ons of cheese, meat and poultry.
We will certainly stay in touch during this “off season”. Please stop by our web site and facebook page as we will be updating throughout the winter. You can always reach us via email (info@simpaugfarms.com) As current CSA member we will contact you first for renewal prior to offering shares to the waiting list.
